After an accident

After an accident

Were you involved in a (traffic) accident or do you know someone who was involved? Here you can read about how restorative mediation works and can help with recovery.

After an accident, we are there for victims, relatives of deceased people, and causer of the accident (and sometimes also for witnesses). Anyone can contact us: we’re happy to tell you more about how we mediate. It can concern many different types of (traffic) accidents: minor or major accidents, that happened a short time or a long time ago.

Is this right for me?

Often times, victims or relatives of deceased people are left with many questions:

  • ‘What exactly happened?’
  • ‘Why did the causer of the accident drive like that?’
  • ‘Do they understand how the accident impacted me and my life?’

Through asking questions and getting answers, restorative mediation can offer more peace and relief to victims and relatives of deceased people.

The contact can also help the causer of the accident to deal with the consequences and possible feelings of guilt:

  • ‘I can finally show them remorse and tell them how terrible it was.’
  • ‘I want to talk about how it happened.’
  • ‘I can explain how it also impacted my life.’

For both people, seeing each other and talking with each other can help to deal with and move on from what happened.

How does restorative mediation work?

After you apply, the mediator will have a conversation with you about your wants and wishes regarding the mediation process. Only after that and with your permission, the mediator will contact the other person. Participation is always voluntary and confidential. It is completely free of cost, you don’t have to pay anything. Read more about how it works.

Contact us for more information, or apply directly for an intake with our mediator.

Restorative mediation after a traffic accident: two experiences

Sharon was hit by a van on her scooter. A year later, she's ready to meet with the causer of the accident through Perspectief.

Marco is a truck driver. He causes a serious accident, in which someone dies. Under the guidance of a mediator of Perspectief, he meets with one of the victims.
