It’s a dark and rainy morning when Sharon (then 16 years old) is hit by a van on her scooter. The accident and the period after are one big black hole. Over a year later, she feels ready to talk with the causer of the accident through Perspectief.
A year and a half after the accident, Sharon thought about the causer of the accident more and more often. “I knew he got psychological help. It wasn’t nothing for him. I wanted to reassure him by showing him that I was doing better. By telling him that I didn’t blame him and had picked my life back up, I hoped he would feel less guilty. For that reason, I wanted to meet with him.”
She applied for restorative mediation through Perspectief. Mother Dana: “We first had a conversation with the mediator. We told her why we wanted to see the causer of the accident. Then she talked with him as well. Eventually, we arranged a meeting in a neutral place.”
